I'm so excited to share this giveaway with you, where there is a chance to win an art supplies subscription box from Sketch and Story. You can enter the giveaway over on my YouTube video here.
Sketch and Story offer bi-monthly art supplies subscription boxes, full of beautiful products which are often artisan-made, or products that can be difficult to find elsewhere.
Natalie from Sketch and Story very kindly sent me the box from September to try out and also offered to sponsor another box, for me to host a giveaway over on my YouTube channel.
The box contained artisan watercolour paints, twin-tipped brush pens, technical drawing pens, a Sakura gelly roll pen and handmade seed paper. I particularly enjoyed that there is a card inside the box, telling you all about the artisan makers, the products and also setting an art challenge related to the contents.
I started off by swatching the watercolour paints. This beautiful purple paint is actually a sneak peek at one of the paints that will be included in the Christmas special edition box.
Next, I used a compass to sketch out one large circle and then one smaller one within it. I painted the moon by using the paint colour called Carrara. This paint was created by a Swedish artist called Julia K.
Once I had dried the moon, I used the black paint called Hell to fill in the larger circle. I played around by using various amounts of pigment and water to get a range of different shades.
As someone who is used to using lots of different colours when painting, using just two paints really stretched me, which I loved! I find it fascinating to see how much you can achieve with just a couple of colours.
I finished off my pages by sketching in some trees, using one of the technical drawing pens and then adding some stars with the Sakura Gelly roll.
I have been lucky enough to try out a few subscription boxes over the years and this is definitely one of my favourites. I love that it features an artist, artisan makers, brands that I haven't heard of and also that the box sets the scene for a lovely challenge. It really makes you feel part of a wonderful community when you see lots of people posting their creations following the same theme.
